KingQueen - mixoff

Hey Folks,

Hope you've all been busy. Busy is good. Here is a track I'm almost finished producing. It's called "KingQueen". It's by an artist I'm working with named Queen Makedah and it features Indie label artist Toussaint the "Liberator".

About the track

All music was written and performed by me except for the rhythm guitar and lead guitar which I brought in a good friend (Blues guitarist "Rusty" Zin) to lay down. The track is about 95% finished. It still needs a few more female vox adlibs over the choruses but unfortunately my home studio was robbed last week and they took my favorite tube mic  >:(  so we are trying to work out another studio for QM to record her additional adlibs now.

We will be sending off the track for final mix but I threw together a little ruffmix for fun. I hope you guys like it.

I hope you like it...and most of all have Fun with it.

P.S. Almost forgot to mention...Toussaint recorded his own vocals at his home studio. He did a pretty good job! thumbsup.

Yeah. I have mixed emotions. On one hand I'm pretty dismayed since the mic was modded and I've gotten soooo many compliments from AE's all over the place about that mic. Everyone wants to know "wha... (read more)

Very interesting. Totally opposite direction than mine. I love the energy you infused into the track with the heavy handed compression/limiting. I might have to do another ruffmix and steal some id... (read more)

Feedback for those who has posted all ready! :)

All I need is a little more star treatment on the vocals.
Otherwise great mix, nicely and glued.
Great job!!  :D

Jamrock
Nice mix indeed!!
Like japancakes this glues nicely!, but theres a little bit of pumping on the bass low end that kinda have a sea sick effect on me.
Otherwise this is an awesome mix love the vocals effects.
Great job! :D

Really liking the vocal FX and the dub sections in the beginning. There was a bit of pumping which if you can get rid of will take your mix to another level. Great job overall.

Very smooth sound you were able to get in your mix. I like the overall vibe and feel. Good work.

Thanks for the tips guys, appreciated.

Wow, great writing, arranging, producing and recording! Oh, and great performances too! ;D

Even just setting up the levels before doing any actual mixing it sounded pretty good...

Here's my (first) take on it!

(Did I mention I really dig the song?)

My shot: http://theaudiocave.com/mixes/king_queen.mp3

As usual, not slammed or "home mastered" so probably not loud as most.

Would have really liked to have seen much less low passing in the original bass stem.
